Celebrating International Women's Day with Hilarious Comedy

Eleanor Tiernan and Aideen McQueen lead an all-female comedy lineup to celebrate International Women’s Day at The Attic Comedy Club in Southampton.

We’ve got an epic lineup of funny women for you on Wednesday 8th March 2023. You’re in for a great comedy night here! These women are truly funny:

Eleanor Tiernan

Eleanor Tiernan, in the UK and Ireland, has seriously begun to make her mark as a great stand-up comic. As of 2019, she has made nine appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe.

She was featured on The Panel and Stuart Lee's Alternative Comedy Experience. Additionally, she wrote and performed sketches for three seasons of Irish Pictorial Weekly. Her 2007 show was called "Help" while "Help The Frigid" is the title of her 2014 production. In 2015, Tiernan went on a stand-up tour under the name of "National Therapy Project".

In 2022, she starred in Holding which aired on ITV/Virgin Media Ireland. As a writer, Tiernan has written for the Irish edition of Sunday Times and been a regular columnist for The Irish Examiner; she also contributed content to Buffering. Success Without Sex Tape which is based on her 2018 Edinburgh show was released by BBC Radio 4 in 2020. Also that year, Tiernan took part in Radio 4's April 2022 edition of The News Quiz.

Comedian and writer Eleanor Tiernan has featured on Stand Up For Live Comedy (BBC3), and Comedy Central’s The Alternative Comedy Experience, and she has supported acts including Iliza Shlesinger, Stewart Lee, Tig Notaro, Ardal O’Hanlon, Jason Manford, Jason Byrne and Reginald D. Hunter. She has been a panellist on BBC Radio 4’s News Quiz and Where’s the F In News? and The Blame Game (BBC Northern Ireland).

Most recently Eleanor appears in Holding, a new TV adaptation of Graham Norton’s debut novel.

Eleanor’s style is “deceptively sharp” (Fest Mag) and filled with her trademark acerbic wit.

Her solo shows regularly receive rave reviews and she has been featured on the Sunday Times list of Top Ten Female Stand-Ups To Watch.

With Special Guests:

Aideen McQueen

Aideen McQueen is one of the brightest sparks in the new generation of Irish comics. She’s sassy, sexy, saucy and side-splittingly funny.

Aideen appears regularly on RTE, TG4, and BBC Northern Ireland and has numerous writing credits with BBC Radio 4. She is one of the resident comperes at the world-famous International Comedy Club in Dublin and has supported many top names including Ardal O’ Hanon, Dylan Moran, Johnny Vegas, Phil Kay, Sean Hughes, Reginald D Hunter, Des Bishop, David O Doherty, Neil Delamere, Arthur Smith and Frankie Boyle.

Aideen McQueen is also a professional musician (singer and guitarist), one of the Irish language’s foremost proponents and a former primary school teacher. She describes herself as, “spontaneous - in the losing my keys rather than the kitesurfing way.”

“Best young comic I’ve seen in ages.” Arthur Smith

“One of comedy’s undiscovered talents.” Hot Press

“Such a strong act.” Des Bishop

“Brilliant with the crowd.” Irish Independent

Katie Norris

Katie Norris is a multi-talented comedian, actress and singer who is well-known for being one-half of the highly esteemed duo Norris & Parker. Their 2016 show See You at the Gallows was highlighted in The Guardian's top 10 comedy shows list for that year and their 2018 performance Burn the Witch sold out both in Edinburgh and London, receiving praise from The Guardian, The Evening Standard and The Independent. Following a four-year absence, they made a triumphant return to Edinburgh Fringe in 2022 with their production Sirens. This was subsequently transferred to Soho Theatre in early 2023. Most recently Katie has been longlisted for the Musical Comedy Awards 2023 main prize.

Aside from performing, Katie Norris works as a regular voice actor on BBC Radio 4's The Now Show and is part of Hull Truck Theatre's Supported Artists program as well as Poda Poda Collective; an exchange project partnered with artists from Freetown, Sierra Leone which is supported by both British Council and Hull Truck Theatre.
