Daliso Chaponda: Britain's Got Talent Finalist comes to Southampton Comedy Club!
Daliso Chaponda graces our presence on a comedy night not to be missed at The Attic, the local entertainment club leading comedy in Southampton.
Daliso Chaponda is a comedy writer and performer from Malawi who was a finalist, finishing third in the eleventh series of Britain's Got Talent in 2017. Chaponda's act consisted of stand-up comedy, and he was the first African comedian to be a finalist on the show. Chaponda won the audience by impressing the judges with his hilariously relatable jokes. Judge Amanda Holden even used her "golden buzzer" to help him get through to the semi-final round of the competition. His sets had the audience in stitches, and the judges were unanimous in their praise for him. Chaponda was a deserving finalist, and he has gone on to have a successful very career in comedy!

Daliso is now enjoying impressive stats of over 200 million views of his comedy videos online. Daliso Chaponda is also the writer, creator, and host of his own BBC Radio 4 show, Citizen of Nowhere (Rose d’Or nominated), which has now aired for two full series.
Daliso Chaponda shot to fame on BGT, making it to the finals of the 2017 series of the show and establishing himself as one of the leading favourites with the judges and the British audience alike. He has now become a Facebook and YouTube star and has amassed over 200 million views of his stand-up comedy performances.
Chaponda was a finalist on Britain’s Got Talent show in 2017 and narrowly missed out on £250,000 prize. Following BGT, Chaponda said that he would use his prize money to buy a house for his mother in Malawi and to help fund his future comedy career. He also said that he hoped to use his newfound fame to raise awareness of the issues faced by people living in poverty in Africa. The reaction to Chaponda's win has been largely positive, with many people praising him for his talent and for representing Africa in a positive light.

Daliso has performed globally including hilarious standup performances at the Edinburgh, Melbourne, Singapore, and Cape Town comedy festivals. He has also toured the UK twice to sell out audiences and rave reviews.
In addition to standup comedy, Daliso is an educated guy also boasting literacy skills as a fiction writer. He has published murder mysteries, science fiction and fantasy fiction in lots of magazines and anthologies. Currently, he is working on both a new novel and a children’s book.
Chaponda was born in Blantyre, Malawi, and moved to the United Kingdom in 2003. He has worked as a musician, actor, and stand-up comedian. In 2016, Chaponda appeared on an episode of the BBC Radio 4 panel show The News Quiz.
Daliso Chaponda was the first African act to be a finalist on Britain’s Got Talent. Chaponda's comedy is based on his observations of British and African cultures. He has appeared on several television shows and radio programs in the United Kingdom.
