Henry Normal comes to The Attic in Southampton

Henry has never stopped. After retiring from TV and Film production in 2016, he has written and performed in eight BBC Radio 4 shows, which incorporate comedy, stories, and poetry. ‘A normal Home,’ Henry’s tenth show, was recorded last month to be aired on BBC Radio 4 on 20th December 2022.

Henry is the founder of the Manchester Poetry Festival, which is now known as the Literature Festival, and is the co-founder of the Nottingham Poetry Festival.

In June 2017, Henry was honoured with a special BAFTA for services to Television. As expected, due to his exceptional writing, co-writing and editing on popular shows such as Mrs Merton, Mrs Merton and Malcolm, The Royle Family, the BAFTA winning Paul and Pauline Calf Video Diaries, Coogan’s Run, Tony Ferrino, Doctor Terrible and all three of Steve’s live tours and the film The Parole Office.

Baby Cow Productions Ltd was set up in 1909, where Henry Executive Produced all and script edited many shows during its nearly 18-year output during his tenure as MD. Some highlights of the Baby Cow Productions Ltd include Oscar nominated film Philomena, I Believe in Miracles, Gavin and Stacey, Moone Boy, Uncle, Marion and Geof, Night Night, The Might Boosh, Red Dwarf, Hunderby, Camping and Alan Partridge.

With help from his wife Angela Pell, Henry released his book of Memoirs ‘A Normal Family’ in 2018, which is inspired by his family experience. It quickly became a best seller on Amazon with it already being reprinted as well as a paperback in March 2019.

Incredibly, Henry has been recently awarded an honorary doctorate of letters by Nottingham Trent University, and rightly so, has a beer and a bus named after him in Nottingham!

Henry has been performing his unique poetry and comedy at dozens of venues around the UK, and his now headed to Southampton at The Attic, as part of his UK Tour!

Nigel Planer joins us at The Attic in Southampton

In the 1980s, Nigel Planer emerged as an original member of the comedy groups central to the 'Alternative Comedy' movement. He achieved recognition through his roles in the iconic TV series The Young Ones and The Comic Strip Presents. Additionally, Nigel's creative repertoire encompasses novels, plays, TV and radio scripts, and an extensive collection of poetry spanning over fifty years. His volume, Making Other Plans, compiles almost all his poetic works, inspired by the notion that "poetry is what happens when you're busy making other plans." https://flapjackpress.co.uk/

Notably, Nigel's poetry has found publication in reputable outlets such as the Guardian and various anthologies. His 1997 collection, 'Unlike the Buddha,' stands as a testament to his poetic prowess. Furthermore, this summer witnesses the release of his latest book, Jeremiah Bourne in Time, a peculiar and humorous exploration of time-travel. https://unbound.com/books/jeremiah-bourne-in-time/
